CLDS-101-1: Cloud Performance (Cloud Storage and Applications Track)
Paper Title: Highly scalable and performant All Flash CEPH Storage with NVMe-oF

Paper Abstract: It is well known that an all flash CEPH solution can provide a highly resilient shared storage environment that can also be high performance. When paired with NVMe-oF, the scaling options increase drastically while meeting and/or exceeding the expectations of resiliency or performance. NVMe-oF provides CEPH with the foundation of a truly independent scaling between compute nodes and storage. The use of Ethernet as the storage fabric means capacity scaling is limited only by an IP range, while RDMA over Converged Ethernet ensures the low latency and high performance. Composable Disaggregated Infrastructure enables device connectivity to be allocated in any way desired. This presentation will discuss the integration, configuration, final outcomes of the testing we have done to validate this solution.

Paper Author: David Tobin, Technologist, Western Digital

Author Bio: David Tobin is a Technologist in the Apps Team for Western Digital’s Platforms business unit. His entire career has been focused on ingesting, migrating, processing, storage, and archiving Big Data. Over the last 7 years designing, evaluating, and optimizing software defined storage systems starting with the Western Digital ActiveScale product to now working with partners like Ceph to build solutions with Western Digital Platforms. The previous 10 years were spend developing and testing local and remote storage systems and tools for proprietary financial databases that consumed 10+ TB per day and kept history of multiple decades.
