CLDS-101-2: Optimizing Clouds (Cloud Storage and Applications Track)
Paper Title: Openstack cloud logmonitor service for infra insights and rapid troubleshooting

Paper Abstract: Openstack is an open source cloud computing platform, deployable as Infrastructure as a service(IaaS) on both public and private clouds. It facilitates deploying multiple virtual resources like VMs, networks, DNS, object and block storage, k8s services etc. Also, it enables datacenter owners to more effectively manage by providing the cloud services like metering (Ceilometer), multi-tenancy (Keystone), Alarming (Aodh). A unified logging system is missing as each component handles its own log files/directories. With growing infrastructure demands, the number of instances on the cloud grow over periods of time which increase the complexity of management. As part of the cloud administration and infrastructure handling, troubleshooting the infrastructure logs is a foundational element. Tracking the IP intruding at both the overall infrastructure and VMs at the same time is needed to forecast the resource request traffic. A new custom developed logging, monitoring and observability capability is needed into OpenStack architecture to address all the management challenges. The primary use of this new service is to collect logs from all cloud modules and virtual resources, store them in a central repository, handle accessibility to logs, gain insights from real-time cloud log data and tracking the IP intruders.
