NWRK-302-1: NVMe-oF Storage Software (Networking Track)
Paper Title: Disaggregated Flash Storage High Performance Use Cases

Paper Abstract: While NVMe SSDs are commonly used in today's data center for IOP demanding workloads, NVMe-oF (over Fabrics) enables these SSDs to be used in disaggregated storage all-flash-arrays. Disaggegating your NVMe SSDs from your servers over a high-speed Ethernet fabric provides the same great throughput performance you get when the SSDs are local, but also gives you optimized scaling capabilities, eliminates silos of your most expensive storage tier, and breaks your storage free of the server upgrade cadence. We will explore two use cases in detail. S3 compatible high performance storage from Minio running on Western Digital Data24 JBOFs demonstrates how NVMe-oF can be used to enable S3 in even the most performance challenged applications. While backup may not seem like a candidate for high performance flash, Veritas NetBackup running on Western Digital's Data24. JBOF enables the fastest possible restore time in the event of disaster or ransom attack.
