DNAA-301-1 DNA Data Storage Part 1 (DNA Data Storage Track)
Paper Title: DNAssim: A Full System Simulator for DNA Storage

Paper Abstract: Using synthetic DNA for data storage implies two complex steps of digital data processing, namely Encoding and Decoding, which are very different from what we are used to in the conventional Flash environment. Because of the intrinsic statistical behavior of the DNA storage errors (i.e. insertions, deletions, and substitutions), a simulator is required for figuring out the impact of different Encoding/Decoding strategies and algorithms on the storage capabilities of DNA. In this presentation we will describe DNAssim, a full-system simulator for DNA storage which enables a complete design exploration of both Encoding and Decoding.

Paper Author: Alessia Marelli, CTO, DNAalgo

Author Bio: Alessia Marelli is CTO of DNAalgo, where she leads the information theory team to study algorithms applied to DNA data storage. Before that she was technical leader at Microsemi where she was part of NAND characterization team with a special focus on data analysis and Flash Management Algorithms. Prior Microsemi, she was senior designer at IDT working on ECC solutions for Flash Controllers. Before that she worked in Infineon and STMicroelectronics defining Error Correction Code for the industry’s first MLC NAND with BCH embedded. She holds 30+ patents regarding Error Correction Codes and is co-author of a number of different books.
