Paper Title: CXL-enabled SSD: building true computational storage

Paper Abstract: CXL is focused on DRAM Expansion. Computational storage wants to bring compute closer to the data. A storage tier typically uses RAID stripes, preventing a given SSD from having complete objects. A working computational storage tier can do away with RAID, but only has a few small embedded cores per SSD. By comparison, a modern GPU has thousands of cores. The best way to bring compute closer to the data is to reduce the time to access the data. Gen6 SSD have the same bandwidth as DDR5. Using a coherent CXL SSD, accessing storage becomes transparent to the GPU and CPU. The working data set increases dramatically from gigabytes to terabytes and maybe even petabytes in a single chassis. This will unlock the true power of HPC, AI and ML.
