NWRK-302-2: NVMe-oF Fabrics (Networking Track)
Paper Title: Storage Architectures for High Performance Applications

Paper Abstract: New generation of data intensive Mission Critical Applications has driven the adoption of NVMe Solutions that provide high throughput, low latency and low CPU utilization. The NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) Storage ecosystem has matured and is in the cusp of widespread deployment in private and public cloud. Since the introduction of NVMe-oF, a lot of investment and effort have gone in to improve the storage performance and features resulting in substantial improvement of IOPs and CPU utilization and lowering the TCO for the customer. NVMe-oF lends itself well to meeting growing storage demands, helping business critical applications and operating systems to scale up and utilize the available storage bandwidth. In this talk, we will discuss traditional and new generation storage architectures and their benefits/pitfalls. We will also look at how to best use these storage architectures when deploying traditional/modern applications on Kubernetes as well as existing infrastructure. We will also provide performance numbers and show how modern applications are driving requirements for high throughput and low latency IO, towards realizing more value to the customer.
