Paper Title: Flash and Tiered Memory Systems
Paper Abstract: The lack of cost scaling of DRAM ($/GB) is making it hard to build resource-balanced servers in the cloud and the enterprise infrastructure. Leveraging flash to build a tiered memory system can be a solution to this issue as long as the performance question is understood and addressed. This presentation will discuss the performance impact of having a two-tier memory system (DRAM as cache for flash), and how AI-based data management can significantly reduce the performance impact due to the large latency differential between flash and DRAM.
