MEDE-301B-1: VR – Virtual Stories, Experiences You Control (Media & Entertainment Track)
Paper Title: Practical Considerations of the Volumetric Filmmaking Pipeline

Paper Abstract: In the emerging field of volumetric filmmaking there are technologies that appear to be straight out of the latest sci-fi blockbuster! The ability to cinematically capture a moment in time, as well as a moment in space, requires industry-leading technology. But the more mundane aspects of the production pipeline cannot be left behind in the process. Traditional tools of image acquisition and signal management are still front and center in even the most technologically-enhanced volumetric filmmaking experience. Volumetric filmmaking provides creatives with a tremendous new opportunity to tell their stories, and the future of this technology is bright. As more of the technological and financial barriers to entry are lowered and eventually removed for creatives, we can expect expanded opportunity for consumption as new paths are established.
