ENST-102A-1: Enterprise Storage Design (Enterprise Storage Track)
Paper Title: Dramatically Increasing Filesystem Performance with Flash

Paper Abstract: The flash and NVMe/NVMe-oF revolutions have brought super-fast block storage to enterprise and cloud datacenters. But some workloads prefer or even require file storage instead of block, especially technical applications used for product development, discovery, research, and scientific exploration. Achieving the best file storage performance from flash requires a filesystem optimized for flash as well as the right servers, filesystem, and network hardware. A proof of concept system design illustrates a combination of software, servers, media, and networking that accelerates file storage performance, avoids bottlenecks, and delivers exceptional application throughput.

Paper Author: John Kim, Director of Storage Marketing, NVIDIA

Author Bio: John F. Kim has been Director of Storage Marketing at Mellanox Technologies since 2013, where he helps storage customers and vendors benefit from high performance interconnects and smart offloads, including RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access). After starting his high tech career in IT helpdesk and network administration, John spent several years on solution marketing, product management, and alliances at enterprise software companies, followed by 12 years creating storage solutions and alliances at NetApp and EMC, before moving to Mellanox. John closely follows the areas of flash, storage fabrics, software-defined storage, and hyperconverged infrastructure, and is also chair of the SNIA Networking Storage Forum.
