Paper Title: Moving Target Defenses for Data Storage Devices

Paper Abstract: Flash storage devices and arrays are used to collect our most sensitive information. Recent advances in open-channel SSDs, persistent memory and NVMe-oF have created an opportunity to employ system software-based active cyber defense mechanisms. Cyber adversaries have the time and means to plan attacks at their leisure. Dynamic defense is a way to proactively defend against these attacks that rely on the static nature of modern computing systems. And while international standardization efforts have begun to address the topic, much more can be done to actively defend against these types of threats using system software and embedded firmware. This presentation will take a look under the hood of an innovative Moving Target Defense that will provide additional protection for critical NVMe storage devices and networks.
