NEWM-301A-1: Life Beyond Flash - New Non-Volatile Memory Technologies (New Memory Technologies Track)
Paper Title: Emerging Memories Find New High-Performance Applications

Paper Abstract: Suddenly there's a lot of interest in new memory technologies. Today's established memory technologies are approaching their scaling limits, ending Moore's Law cost reductions and the memory price decreases that the industry depends upon. New memories like ReRAM, MRAM, PCM, and FRAM don't only scale past these limits, but all of them are nonvolatile and can significantly reduce energy consumption in computing environments. Today's entrenched technologies, DRAM, SRAM, EEPROM, and NAND and NOR flash, are proving hard to displace, though because despite their technical deficiencies, their costs remain lower than the newcomers' thanks to the economies of scale. This presentation, based on a new report from Objective Analysis and Coughlin Associates, investigates the economics of new memories and explains when, why, and how the market is most likely to evolve.
