NVMF-301-1: Demystifying NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF Track)
Paper Title: NVMe-oF SAN telemetry with programmable switches

Paper Abstract: NVMe-oF with Ethernet allows large scale storage networks to be built with high performance and low cost. Ethernet brings with it a rich telemetry to monitor link utilization, load balancing efficiency and micro-burst monitoring. Tuning and debugging performance issues and also isolating connectivity issues requires storage aware telemetry in addition to native Ethernet metrics. This talk will present a telemetry framework that augments Ethernet telemetry with native storage parameters that includes device discovery, fault isolation and performance monitoring. This can be accomplished with programmable switch silicon with deep packet parsing and in-the-silicon streaming using industry standard protocols. Example use cases will show the feasibility and monitoring performance improvements by analyzing, load-balancing and proactive planning and management of storage workloads.
