NVME-301-1: PCIe/NVMe Technology Update (NVMe Track)
Paper Title: NVMe Use Case: Surveillance Video Processing

Paper Abstract: The scope of video surveillance covers a large variety of applications and industries. However, they all share a common requirement to efficiently compress, distribute, and store video information. Many surveillance solutions today require expensive networking and storage infrastructure. Meanwhile, the demand for video surveillance is expanding. The industry is ready for a new approach to economically process surveillance video for distribution to a growing number of users, applications, and end points. Join this session to learn how NVMe is being applied to deliver economic benefits to the surveillance video industry. NVMe is already known for SSD control with high throughput and low latency, yet NVMe is also extensible, allowing NVMe to be used for control of unique video processors onboard the SSD controller System-on-Chip (SoC) to accelerate video compression, encoding, and transcoding. The benefit of this silicon-based integration of storage and video processing capabilities delivers a foundation for a whole new range of surveillance video applications such as traffic monitoring, transportation hubs, casinos, or driverless vehicles.
