NVME-202-1: PCIe/NVMe Storage (NVMe Track)
Paper Title: Applying NVMe in Embedded and Mobile Applications

Paper Abstract: Most embedded and mobile applications utilize eMMC and UFS storage solutions. In theory, NVMe could provide faster, more powerful interfaces with more standard commands and support. However, NVMe drives and controllers are usually far too large and power-hungry for embedded/mobile applications. Furthermore, such applications have a wide range of requirements and performance targets that need varied solutions. The new BGA1113 PCIe drive form factor bridges the gap. It offers PCIe capabilities in an 11.5 by 13 mm form that can support NVMe. Obviously, power dissipation is a major concern in such a small package operating at high frequencies. With careful tuning, BGA1113 can address a full range of battery-powered small-formfactor products including media tablets, mobile phones, and 2-in-1 platforms. New research shows silicon size for different solutions and covers current, performance, and heat when tuned for power envelopes ranging from 0.5W to 2W.
