ARCH-101-1: Open-Channel SSDs for Host-Based Optimization (Architectures Track)
Paper Title: Use of Open-Channel SSDs in Chinese Datacenters

Paper Abstract: An Open-Channel SSD (OCS) allows its its physical addresses to be written by a host-based application, thus enabling organizing data in the media according to its unique requirements. The approach results in significant improvement in storage efficiency, allowing improved performance and quality of service (QoS). OCSs provide much more design flexibility in architecture and functions comparing to conventional SSDs, due to its software defined nature. We present exemplary implementations of OCS and show the results in terms of performance and QoS improvements for datacenter applications.
