SECU-102B-1: Building Security into Your System (Security Track)
Paper Title: Combating Persistent Cyber Attacks: The Secure Flash-to-Cloud Approach

Paper Abstract: With the autonomous and connected revolution underway in the automotive and industrial markets, edge nodes are rapidly becoming cyber-attack targets for both terror and financial reasons. It is critical for these devices to have a secure booting process, and the content of the devices must also be trusted. Imagine hackers getting control of the device and posing persistent cyber-security threats to the device and its content. It is crucial to prevent those attacks and enable secure updates with trusted management, which requires building a secure flash-to-cloud solution. This can be achieved by leveraging the in-memory computing capabilities of Flash devices to create a secured flash-to-cloud channel to protect against overwriting, modification, and manipulation attacks on firmware, boot images and system parameters. This solution protects the connected devices from persistent cyber-attacks, regardless of processor and OS type, by protecting the Flash contents and monitoring end-point device status. In addition, a management platform is used to maintain device-to-cloud integrity, manage self-provisioning between server and device, control software version, and detect attacks.
