AUTO-202A-1: Auto Infotainment Advances/Obstacles (Automotive Applications Track)
Paper Title: Secure F-RAM for Automotive Event Data Recording in ADAS Applications

Paper Abstract: Emerging assisted and autonomous automotive driving systems are placing increased demands on processing and data storage applications. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) require reliable capture of camera, ultra-sonic, radar and LIDAR sensor data, ensuring proper operation and guaranteeing complete, high-fidelity data records in case of power loss. All of this must happen while operating in harsh, sometimes uncontrolled, automotive environments requiring high-reliability nonvolatile storage with extended endurance cycling, data retention and product life. Recent requirements also legislate that data captured must be locked in the EDR’s memory and may only be accessed by authorized agencies, in order to ensure data integrity. Secure F-RAMs are not only capable of meeting the demanding data-logging requirements, but add security features that lock access to the memory at the time of an accident and allow unlocking the device only with proper authentication keys. Performance and reliability data will be presented to demonstrate the successful use of F-RAMs for this application.
