Paper Title: OpenFAM API for Efficient Access to Global, Non-volatile Fabric-attached Memory

Paper Abstract: OpenFAM is an API patterned after OpenSHMEM that enables efficient access to secure shared memory objects in non-volatile fabric-attached memory (FAM). The draft OpenFAM API includes initialization/finalization, query, memory allocation, data path, atomics, and memory ordering. A preliminary specification has been developed by HPE and was presented to the OpenSHMEM Steering Committee (OSC). As a result, OSC formed a memory management subcommittee to study support for fabric attached memory and inclusion of the OpenFAM ideas in the OpenSHMEM 2.0 release, scheduled for 2020. It is HPE’s intent to facilitate community discussion regarding future frameworks and APIs for global, fabric-attached memory, system designs.
