Paper Title: Getting the Most Out of Performance Specs: Top Ten Points for Embedded Designers

Paper Abstract: Performance is a difficult thing to measure. As the old saying goes, “Your mileage may vary.” Embedded designers often must consider many factors when evaluating SSDs, depending on their applications. Just plain number of IOPS per second when fresh out of the box is seldom sufficient. Other issues include preconditioning, overprovisioning, NCQ, pSLC or pMLC modes, latency and startup time, and 3D full sequence programming. A Top Ten list, like those featured on old late night television shows, can help designers determine what kind of specification is likely to do the job for them.
