Paper Title: Show Me the Money! Measuring the TCO of NVMe-over-Fabric JBOF Systems

Paper Abstract: NVMe has been widely accepted as a major advance in SSD interfaces. Now NVMe-over-fabrics is bringing a similar advance to shared storage. A new TCO model shows that NVMe-over-fabrics also reduces data center costs considerably. It improves storage utilization and reduces the amount of SSD capacity required. Tests using the model show excellent results for many customer use cases involving a variety of applications and data center architectures.

Paper Author: Ziv Serlin, VP System Architecture, E8 Storage

Author Bio: Ziv Serlin is VP Architecture/Co-Founder at E8 Storage, a developer of enterprise grade software-shared NVMe solutions At E8 Mr. Serlin worked on architecting products for two years and has recently switched over to helping customers define and explore their E8 deploymemt models. He also leads the strategic engagement of E8 hardware partners. An expert in designing complex storage systems, Mr. Serlin has extensive experience as a system architect at Primary Data and was the hardware R&D manager for the IBM XIV product (scale out high-end enterprise block storage system). He earned a BSc in Computer Engineering at the Technion. He holds a key storage patent on reducing data loss from his work at IBM.
