Paper Title: Hardware-Accelerated Security Offloads for Networked Storage

Paper Abstract: 2017 saw remarkable increases in four areas: 1) the use of flash storage; 2) the growth of the cloud; 3) the adoption of faster networking such as 25/100GbE; and 4) the frequency of hacking attacks. Customers must increase the performance of their storage systems and networks while simultaneously improving their security. Often the only way to do both is to utilize hardware security offloads for encryption, firewalls, and packet inspection. Advances and options in security offloads include NICs with programmable packet processing offloads and programmable smart NICs featuring an FPGA or System on Chip (SOC). Such hardware offloads allow systems to support faster storage and faster networks without compromising network or storage security.
