Paper Title: Scaling stateful containers for cloud applications with high-performance NVMe-oF

Paper Abstract: New cloud data centers are witnessing a transformative revolution, using ultra-low latency & high performance Flash storage that can scale across a variety of workloads. NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) technology is one such enabler, which scales NVMe SSDs beyond the direct attach storage architecture which limits accessibility of the NVMe resources to a single compute node. These high-performance NVMe block devices are now accessed over the network via lightweight transport & NVMe comm&s. Container orchestrators, like Kubernetes, are rapidly becoming a de facto st&ard for application provisioning in large enterprises. In this session, we will discuss how Portworx, a cloud-native container data services provider, & Toshiba’s NVMe-oF storage node software have joined forces to demonstrate an on-dem& flash provisioning over Converged Ethernet for data center applications & databases. We will examine how Portworx & Toshiba lead the transformation from software-defined to application-aware & application-defined cloud-native infrastructure that will drive modern workloads with greater performance, efficiency & demonstrable cost-savings over conventional approaches to private clouds.

Paper Author: Sudhakar Mungamoori, Director of Storage Solutions, Toshiba Memory America
Venkat Ramakrishnan, , Portworx

Author Bio: PLEASE NOTE TWO PRESENTERS!!! Sudhakar Mungamoori is currently the Director of Storage Solutions at Toshiba Memory America, responsible for bringing NVMe over Fabrics software solutions to the customers. Before joining Toshiba he held leadership roles at eBay and PayPal, managing cloud infrastructure organization drive growth, lower infrastructure costs and stay on top of technology platform complexity and compliance. Venkat Ramakrishnan is currently VP of Engineering at Portworx, where Venkat and the team are helping customers move modern cloud-native containerized workloads to production on any infrastructure, be it an on-prem cloud-scale data centers or public cloud of the customer's choice. Venkat has had the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds at Cisco, IBM, Fusion-io, AMD, WD and now at Portworx, and has worked in the networked storage world all the way from Parallel SCSI, leading to the transition to ISCSI SANs, Scale-out SANs and Parallel Filesystems, world's fastest all-flash storage and multi-petabyte scale object stores.
